party like it's 1999
まるで今日がこの世の最後の日のように弾けたパーティを行う
とあるニュースサイトを読んでいたときに出てきた表現ですが、「1999年のようにパーティしよう」では意味がわかりません。
お馴染み Urban Dictionary によれば
to party like there's no tomorrow. Live like today's your last. In the 1983 Prince hit "1999" he refers to "2000-0-0 party over, oops - out of time" so tonight he "parties like it's 1999". This became a catch phrase in the American lexicon.
という定義が見つかりました。
1982年にプリンスが発表した楽曲に出てくる「2000-0-0 （2000年になった瞬間）にはパーティが終わる。おっともう時間がないぜ」という歌詞から「今が1999年だと思って思い切り楽しもう」という意味になったようです。アメリカ英語の常套句のようですね。

やはりプリンスの"1999"から来ていると書いてありますね。1999年のパーティとは20世紀最後のパーティということですが、当時は世紀の終わりと共に世界も滅亡するという風潮もあって、20世紀最後のパーティ=人生最後のパーティという意識から「明日のことなど気にせずにパーティをする」ということになったようです。
* ところで20世紀は2000年の年末まで続いたのですけどね（笑）
日本でも 1999 年は世界滅亡の年だと信じていた人が少なからずいたことを思うと、洋の東西を問わず終末に心惹かれるひとたちは一定数いたのですね。
